An Open Letter to Bob Lunn: Forty Years

Oak Lawn Toyota
Bob Lunn: Forty Years.

There are some people we come across in life who are unforgettable. Maybe it was the girl in third grade who swooped in and rescued you from bullies, or maybe it’s the man sitting across from you at the breakfast table every morning. Those people we distinguish as “unforgettable” leave lasting impacts that are felt far beyond that initial contact. I have had the distinct honor of working with an unforgettable man for forty years – and as a result, my life has greatly benefited from our friendship.

Forty years ago, Bobby Lunn walked through the front doors at Oak Lawn Toyota Scion and he’s been a valuable member of our family since then. Bob was a part of Oak Lawn High School’s School-to-Work Opportunity Program, and at sixteen years old, his work ethic and enthusiasm was unmatched. I knew this was a kid I had to have working for me full-time, and that’s exactly what happened. Bob Lunn began his career at Oak Lawn Toyota Scion as a porter and moved up through our apprenticeship program, learning the ins and outs of the Service department, and then into his role as a mechanic, where he has excelled in that position for over thirty years.

Bob is the face that many of you don’t get to see, but he’s the guy who ensures that your vehicle gets you and your family from Point A to Point B, safely, every day. He’s the guy who insists on taking on a hard project, and does it with a smile on his face the entire time. He’s the guy who my grandson Tommy insists on visiting when he’s at Oak Lawn Toyota Scion, because what kid doesn’t want to spend time watching a master craftsman STILL at the top of his game!? As Service Manager Al Leon puts it, “He’s the one who makes the rest of our jobs easier, and for that, we all owe him a great deal of thanks.”

Bob is the kid I’ve watched grow into a man. His integrity, generosity, and humor make him a great employee, and an even better friend. I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Bob for forty years, and I look forward to what the future holds.

Thank you for the past forty years, Bob Lunn. You truly are unforgettable.
